Udaipur, view over the lake

Udaipur, view of Shivaji Nagar, India

Close your eyes and imagine… Sun is setting on the Pichola artificial lake of Udaipur. Udaipur, what a magic name, full of exoticness, which fly you with a strain of magic carpet to the country of Maharajahs. While you are sited on sun-heated stone steps, where washerwomen have hit the closes all day long, you can soak the enchanting view of the city palace reflecting in the water. Then the water moves in circle as it is disturbed by young Indian seeking the coolness of the water to ward of the hot and dry air.

As a mirage you can admire the numerous little towers top the palace with their white onion-shaped domes, ready to bloom as the lotus flowers on the lake. Soaked by this calm atmosphere and these warm colors, you forget horns, smell of trash which float over the lake, or the numerous cow-pats. No transition between ugly and beautiful here.
Many temples of different Gods and religion grace the street, some full of exotic sounds.

Palace and lake can be seen from everywhere in Udaipur : from roof top, hotels, guest-houses, hills, mountains, everybody sale a view of the jewel of Udaipur, and it is good for your nerves, away from the stress of the street.

From our guesthouse we had a good view too. We were welcomed in her house by Nirmala. She is really nice and helpful, and helped us for Remi birthday : we had an Indian Cake, very full of colors and cream.

Of course like major cities in Rajahstan Udaipur suffers a bit of the downsides of tourism. Prices are high, and hassle and cons are not unheard of in the street. Nevertheless this is not too annoying and we enjoyed the place.

TIPS FOR UDAIPUR

  • TO DO: Palace View Guesthouse, double very clean and nice without bathroom, 300Rps
  • DON’T: We tried the “Little Armani” tailor, sweet-tongued but high-priced and the quality wasn’t good enough for the price.
