Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

plage Puerto Viejo

As we arrived, Puerto Viejo, a tranquil Caraiban city welcomes us… with a heavy rain. The sea breeze and the peaceful way of life contrast strongly with San José.
Wooden houses are bitten by salt, as our room which looks like a cabin in an old boat.
The rain and the hour didn’t let us the choice in the hotel, so we entered into a very “cool” place. Meaning that here people live at night, spend a lot of time smoking and watching dummy movies. Not our everyday kind of hostel.
After all, this city is known for the surf “breaks”, night-life and growing number of tourist facilities along the sea.
Even if the town is small, it posses a big number of bars, live music and other. We will try it with our friends from Quebec met thanks to the rain: Julie and Christina.

Québécoises de Puerto Viejo

Even if the main road is a few meters away along the shore, the vegetation is sometimes so dense that you could think you are in the jungle with monkey, butterflies and exotic birds all over you, until you hear the waves sound.

Mangrove Puerto Viejo

So it’s a city with a very nice atmosphere, which is handy, because it compensates the expensive prices, and the (relative) lack of things to do. Perfect to just relax and chill around.
