Getting out in Mexico city

Mexico is a city where it’s really easy to get out.
We enjoyed it with our friends Jovani and Delphine.

We went in the Zinco jazz club, in the centre of the city (it is told to be the best of Mexico).
Low lights, red velvet and a very demanding program.
We listened to 3 sets of a Sax Bass Drums trio, the bassist being a major artist in the Mexican jazz world.
Here is a short extract of the presentation of the trio, and a well known jazz standard :

The Zinco is also original for being build in the old safes of a bank. it makes the trip to the bathroom far more interesting!

Mexico is also a very Latina city, with a lot of dancing places. From the very hype and expensive club in the embassies-area, to the popular fiesta, where the police cut a road to the traffic so people can dance.

We went into “la flor del son”, which means the flower of sound.
It a bar with a buffet and a place to dance, very popular. And as often in Mexico, the music is played by live groups (3 played for us), playing alternativly Salsa and ChaChaCha.
So we danced Salsa with pleasure, amongst people of all age ans level (btw, special thanks to DJ Gabi our salsa teacher in Paris , Big Up).
There is a salsa song, listen to it and imagine you are in an overcrowded dance floor in a shared good mood.

Lucha libre
We also went to a typical Mexican show : the “Lutcha Libre”, which is the Mexican Catch.
Our Mexican friends brought us in the most popular arena in Mexico.

It’s a circular place not really spacy (a few hundred of seats very cheap ), with the ring in the centre.
The ambiance is very unique as the crow cheers the catchers.

Traditionally , one team is the rudos and another is the technicos, Ones are the bad , the other the good, which means that they respect rules or not, but it’s a subtle difference!
Supporting songs mix with cries from the hawkers, and sometimes it’s really close to collective hysteria.
All the show is shown on specialised TV.

Here are samples of the atmosphere :

We enjoyed a lot, and we even had a picture taken with “El Dragon Rojo”, aka the red dragon,a star!
