Marimbas and Mariachis let the street vibe in Mexico

Joueurs de Marimbas

In Mexico, the music is everywhere. Every shop diffuse music in the street (the most of the time latino rythms). Musicians are also at each side of the street which creates sometimes cacophonies.

We also met accordion-players, many organ grinders and marimbas players (see the picture).
Here is an extract of marimbas:

The music is so present that some musicians also do not hesitate to play in buses.
Here is an extract of a very mexican interpretation of the song Pretty Women.

But we also discovered the great mexican tradition of mariachis. Mariachis son itinerant musicians who sell their prestation in the street for every event. We meet them on the pavement, proposing their service to passer-bys.
Extract: mariachis proposing to play Guantanamera and the Bamba.

Their name comes from the French word “mariage” because they played at this occasion during the French occupation.

They are still dressed with a very virile traditional suit. We can listen to them at the place or bring them to play anywhere else.

Mariachis sur la place Garibaldi

They play in groups of variable size and their level is also very variable. They have their dedicated place in Mexico called Garibaldi. There we can find some statues of famous mexicans musicians (one is of Javier Soliz, see the article about Mike).

In the night the place becomes really animate while mexicans come to find them and ask for song for their lady love.

Here is a song of mariachis, on the Garibaldi place:

    Super!bisous bisous!
