Iguazu Falls

Garganta del Diablo, Iguazu, Argentine

Iguazu falls, a strange name for such a nature marvel!

The site is incredible : millions of litres each seconds flowing trough hundreds of waterfalls (till 90 meters high), which you can nearly touch, all of this in a very unique humid ecosystem maintained by the fog from the falls.

The falls are a border for 3 countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay), a few kilometers after the world largest dam (see this article).
The visit starts with a path trough the jungle (with a lot tourist).
There are plenty of insects, giant spiders and chatty birds.

Shortly after you arrive on the path maid for the huge frequentation the site enjoys. This plus the noise of helicopters flying over the falls (70 USD$ for a 7min flight), it´s a bit like a big airport! But the path are very well made and guide you at the very vicinity of falls, just where the water falls, and it´s very impressive.

Thankfully it is permitted to walk along the tracks, a bit like in Macchu Pichu.
This way it´s easier to enjoy butterflies (400 different species), very familiar and playfull, as they land on us in search for salt.

Other inhabitants of the forsst includs opposums. This small mamals dig the ground looking for insects. But they are not stupid and a lot prefere to be fed by the silly visitors.

Opossum, Iguazu, Argentine

The very good museum is intersting and shows well one point: the waterfalls acted as an evolutional barrier for the numerous species of fish. Downside od the falls, fishes are bigger and dominated by predatory fishes, upside, fishes are smaller and there are no predatory fishes.
